Wonderful Counselor

On Sunday our Pastor preached from the prophecy in Isaiah 9, and the scriptures have been playing on repeat in my mind ever since we left the service. Each time I read the verse,

For to us a child is born,

to us a son is given;

and the government shall be upon his shoulder,

and his name shall be called

Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,

Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Isaiah 9:6 (ESV)

It is all that I can do not to sing the verse outloud. Growing up I had a wonderfully influential, loving Christian friend, who has just recently become a part of my life again. She introduced me to the music group GLAD, and I have been playing those cd's without fail since seventh grade. One of their songs whose title momentarily escapes me, is this verse sung in a beautiful a capella arrangment. That song in particular never ceases to give me goose bumps and cause me to sing praises to The Wonderful Counselor with all of my heart. The sermon on Sunday brought those memories to the forefront, and I was filled once again with joy and extreme gratitude for the gift that God extended in the birth of his Son.
