How does your garden grow?

Shortly after Cutter was born, Steve determined that this would be the summer in which he would discover if his thumb was in fact green. Perhaps the euphoria of having created an actual being inspired him to see what else he might be able to cultivate.

It seems his nurturing ways do in fact extend to the out of doors and we are the lucky beneficiaries of his gardening success. Most of what he grew was from seed – so I am very impressed with the fruitfulness of the plants this year. We tend to have a bit of a pest problem (bird, insect or otherwise) up in the garden area, but thankfully that doesn’t seem to be an issue this summer.

We had already sampled the spinach via Wilted Spinach Salad a few weeks ago, but were waiting to see what the rest of the garden might produce after numerous rainstorms pelted the fragile stalks of most of the plants. The corn seemed to take the brunt of the abuse.

Lo and behold, the other vegetables are growing furiously and are almost ready to be harvested. I didn’t get to take pictures of them, but there is also an eggplant that is beginning to form, tomato plants, a few jalapeno peppers, and the corn seems to be battling back from the rain. We are looking forward to sampling the rest of the crop!

There's a whole bed dedicated to them - in fact, they are in your backyard! :)
