2 months

Again the cliche - but it really is hard to believe that 2 months have gone by since Cutter's birth. When I look back at the pictures from the days shortly after we brought him home I cannot get over how much he has changed in these short 8 weeks. His hair is so much longer and I am pretty sure that by the time he is 6 months old he will need his first haircut.

At his 2 month well-baby visit Cutter weighed 11 pounds, 2 ounces and was 23 1/2 inches long. He is an average baby which we are very happy about. He is still taking the zantac to help his acid reflux issues and the new dosage (parallel to his weight now) should help him cope a little better with spitting up. He was beginning to show signs of irritation and burning again, so the increased mls should alleviate that.

I am very fortunate to be living in the same area as I did as a child...well who am I kidding I live in the same house...but we are able to see the same pediatrician that both my husband and I saw when we were children. We have the highest respect for the doctors at the practice. At this check-up we saw the doctor that I most remember growing up - Dr. B. I loved him when I was a child, he was always so gentle and kind and I was never afraid of him as I was some of the other doctors in the practice. The odd part is that when he was examining Cutter my olfactory memories were triggered - and I was instantly transported back to my childhood. It is amazing how powerful our sense of smell is - and how it can so easily align with our visual memories.

He encouraged us to begin trying to get Cutter to sleep through the night. I predict an interesting battle of wills playing out - on all sides of the equation.

Ha - no earth-shattering thoughts here I'm afraid! I haven't even begun to think about going through the night, I feel like he needs to wait a little bit - but, that being said - the pedi was pretty admant to start sooner rather than later, but didn't really give me any tips besides beginning to ignore him when he's crying. As I recall he said I need to start training him vs. him training me.
Now at night though if he is fussing and not hungry I really only rub his head, put the paci back in - and go back to our room. I do hate hearing the crying, but he does eventually soothe himself back to sleep. I always put him down for sleep while he is still awake, but sleepy, so he's learned early on to get himself to sleep. I do have a crutch though - we use a rainforest sound machine that literally when I turn it on, swaddle him, and lay him down - he is quiet. For now, I'm okay with it.
