(the final installment)
Cutter has spent most of this past week adjusting to the quiet calm of our home. Our Southern holiday afforded my little lovebug the chance to know what it felt like to literally never be without at least two faces in his – constantly. My cousins became his entourage for the week. Everywhere that he went, there they were, and he of course soaked up every second of it. He is a very personable (and adorable if I must say) baby who loves to be around people and different surroundings. This holiday was an unqualified delight for my son, and I even managed to enjoy myself and relax a little bit.
The benefit of having so many cousins is that I was never without a helper or assistant. Abbie dutifully prepared his bottles (I oversaw said preparation) and cleaned his high chair for me after he ate. Olivia carried him around and played with him and cooed at him. Lee Lee gave him his bottle and kept his interest while he ate. Maddie held him and played with him on his floor mat. Hannah smiled at him which in turn produced some of the most loving smiles I have ever seen from my Cutterbug. All the girls played with him on the beach and in the pool, all the time– and my Cutter was in absolute heaven. This of course, is not to mention all of his other family, who had to fight to get some face time with the main event, too. He was showered with Outer Banks paraphernalia, gifts from Ikea, and affection of every shape and size. Quite simply, he was loved beyond belief, and I wouldn’t have had it any other way.
Coming home and seeing just Mommy all day, is a disppointment of epic proportions, I assure you.
We had a brilliant holiday spent with the people in my life I could not live without. It was a whimsical, idyllic end to Cutter's first summer. I have now retired the summer wardrobe and mindset in favor of the fall uniform. Sweaters and jeans have never looked (and felt) so enticing.
