(No, I'm not British, but their words are much more jolly if I do say so)
We spent our vacation as a party of 22 (all of the family on the Wilson side) in an 8-bedroom seaside home aptly assigned the title, Heavenly Haven, in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. This was our second year going on holiday as an extended family unit and our expectations were exceeded far and wide yet again. While we were south of the Mason Dixon my grandparents celebrated fifty-three years of marriage. It was a special treat for my Gramie and Grampy to have their entire family with them on their anniversary, and my cousins put together a special tribute in honor of their day. Their love is more resilient and wholesome than ever and they are the most loving grandparents to all of their nine grandchildren, and now one great-grandchild.
It was so wonderful to spend the week with them and have them love on Cutter. He loved the attention, there is no doubt about that, and I loved seeing the joy on my grandmother’s face when she held my son. My grandparents are very dear to me and I gladly aim to emulate their love for one another over the past fifty-three years. Both of my grandparents spent their holiday doing what each loves the most. My grandmother was able to spend a great deal of quality time with each of her daughters (in-law and otherwise); talking, sunning, surfing, spooning (of the card variety I assure you), shopping, planning. My grandfather did the same with his sons (in-law and otherwise); ‘shoes, poker, volleyball, sunning, drinking. It was just a perfect week of ancestral bonding – a cheesy, but apropos statement, I do declare.
