My Best Friend's Wedding

“I love you more today than yesterday…”

My best friend, Emily, was married over the weekend to her high school sweetheart, Alex. I was honored to be one of her bridesmaids and had a fabulous time celebrating with them.
On Friday, the traditional pampering ensued with pedicures and manicures all around. I must admit I have never had such a relaxing and satisfying pedicure before, I nearly melted off of the chair.
The rehearsal dinner was held at none other than the Lehigh Valley’s finest ballpark – the Iron Pigs stadium. Having a husband who is enamored with the sport of baseball, I’ve come to appreciate much of the game and its consequent accompaniments. We took advantage of the décor and snapped a shot of the bridesmaids under the title, Most Valuable Pigs, in its most loving interpretation.

I don’t think that I slept more than three hours on Friday night, in part from pregnancy, but mostly in anticipation of the big day ahead – and I wasn’t even the bride in this wedding! Regardless, the day began with hair appointments (praise God for Dana’s starbucks app. on her iphone) and then back to the hotel for lunch and make-up. Each of the bridesmaids got dressed and then we helped Emily into her dress – I always love this part of the wedding day. There is such anticipation on the bride’s part of how everything will look and fit, and when that dress goes on, the wedding becomes that much more real. Her face was beaming and she looked positively radiant.

Pictures were at a nearby park where she had grown up, only adding to the increased sentimentality of the day. It was a little chilly but the sun was shining making for perfect lighting for the pictures.

The ceremony itself was held at Allentown Symphony Hall – a wonderfully unique venue completely fitting for this wedding. This was the first Jewish wedding I had attended or been part of, so I was intrigued by the entire ceremony.

Reception immediately followed in the balcony of Symphony Hall and the ballroom itself was gorgeous. My darling Emily is an event planner and her instincts did not let one detail go unnoticed – I dearly appreciate such attention and noticed all of it.

I took in the rousing horah dance with great awe, for I would certainly have been petrified of being thrown on the floor whence my chair was raised with such force – but Emily and Alex and had such beaming smiles on their faces, they were enjoying every second of the celebration. I thought for certain some of the older relatives were going to collapse with each quickened chorus of “Hava nagila,” but they too were simply over the moon with excitement for Emily and Alex. There was much love in the ballroom that night!

The only negative for the evening was my unfortunate husband’s illness. He stuck it out for the entire wedding but once the band ended, we quickly headed back to the hotel for him to get some rest.
The happy couple!

"But, darling, not as much as tomorrow."
