Nonsensical world of baby registries

I promised not to post all of this baby stuff on here and I swear that I have a few creative and inspirational links upcoming, but I really would be remiss if I didn't mention the process of registering for a baby.
As much as there is an entire world out there geared towards brides and their bridal desires, there is just as much - if not more - for baby registries. My sister decided to brave the retail giant that is Babies R Us with me, and had it not been for her, I think I might still be lost wandering the aisles aimlessly. Who comes up with all of these "necessities" for newborns? They can't do anything but sleep, eat, and poop - and yet they make a myriad of accessories for their entertainment. This is not to say that infants don't need stimulation and encouragement- understandably if we want to groom our own little Einstein perhaps Baby Einstein does need to make an appearance occasionally. What gets me are the items they put as must-have's in their registry guidelines. Do I really need pacifier wipes, strap covers for the car seat, a netting for my play yard - my bassinet - AND my stroller? (Those of you who have kids can laugh at me AFTER I've had the baby and look back at all of this...)
Thank goodness I took the advice of a college friend and took out Baby Bargains, 8th edition from the library. This book brought me back to reality and my inherently frugal tendencies. What does baby truly need, and what is a mere luxury? This book lays it all out and I loved it.
Babies R Us - I'm not falling for your gimmicks!

Lil L! A friend in need, needs a friend indeed! Apparently you were
not aware I had given birth... Yes, to the sears baby catalog. It was
a long and painful labor but now it's up on their site, brimming full
of information. Have a play!
