Ode to Mom

This past Friday my Mom celebrated her fiftieth birthday. Being the last of her core group of four to turn fifty, she has been the butt of many reminders over the past six months that she would one day join their exclusive club. Now that their club has all members accounted for, they've taken off for a week of sun at the shore to bask in the glory that comes when reaching one of life's more notable and numerable milestones.

I, on the other hand, get to stay here in the most humid conditions of the summer thus far. Far be it from me to complain - but a raft on the water would be divine at this moment.

We were able to celebrate her milestone with family before their departure. My Aunt graciously organized an Italian feast in honor of the Birthday girl. I was more than thankful for the choice of theme as meat has not been quite as appealing as of late. Pasta has been my saving grace amidst the past few weeks of changed taste buds.

We graciously showered her with our love and affection through our actions, words, and gifts. Keeping with tradition, my siblings and I put together a list of fifty things that we love about our Mom and read them aloud so that everyone would know what a wonderful Mom she is to us! Tears were shared, good times were had, and most of all cake was enjoyed by all.

Happy fiftieth birthday Mom!
