I have a lot of catching up to do! So much has happened in the last week or two, beginning with our move. Last Friday night was our last night in our house on Waverly Road. It was such a beautiful house and I truly will miss its character and charm. It was home to us for two years and we won't forget the memories we made there as a newly married couple. So many things go into making a house a home!
On Friday we picked up the U-haul truck and began packing everything inside. It is always amazing to me what two people can accumulate in the course of two years when living in a four-bedroom home. The answer is entirely too much stuff! I made many trips to Goodwill both before and after we moved. I was actually thankful to get rid of so much. Too often we attach ourselves to material things that we do not need, and this was a great time to get rid of some of those needless attachments!
Even after all of those trips to Goodwill we managed to still need two trips with the 14-foot truck. My uncle was able to take and use most of our large furniture (he conveniently moved this past weekend) and the rest we are trying to either find a use for it, or it too is going to Goodwill.
My multi-talented husband was a dream in preparing our new living space at my parent's house. We took over three seperate rooms, and we renovated two of them. He is a fantastic carpenter and all around genius when it comes to building and so we took on some lofty projects.
He ripped out all of the old carpeting and replaced it with new hardwood floors. He took out a closet in our future living room and added one in our future bedroom. He spackled, sanded, primed and painted both rooms. He even is making me doors for the bedroom closets (which when I lived here as a child I never had)! My Dad is an electrician and he updated all of our switches and outlets, and even installed some new lighting fixtures and a new fan. It is definitely not my bedroom from my childhood and is now a mature living space for a married couple.
This is the bedroom prior to any work. Mind you, when I moved out two years ago my brother moved into this room so I have nothing to do with the odd placement of shelving.
That is all his doing.
The new and completely improved bedroom.
The living room with closet intact (and awful green paint that was my sister's favorite when she was in high school).
The living room now with no closet and opened up, complete with updated paint (tranquility!) and light fixtures.
We're settling in nicely to our new space and couldn't be happier. The generosity of my parents in allowing us to move in with them affords us both the time and finances to not only pay down some of that nasty college debt, but also to save for a down payment for a home of our own. Had we stayed where we were, it would have taken us way too long to get where we needed to be. This is a wonderful step in the right direction! To living life with those you love!
