I've been holding off in posting about these two dresses just in case the intended recipients were checking out this blog of mine. Now that they have been received I can show you the end result!
I wanted to make a dress for our niece in honor of her arrival, and honestly was too cheap to buy a pattern. I decided to borrow a onesie (6 month size) from a friend and make a pattern from that. This was my first attempt at a dress (really at any clothing) and I have to say that I was pretty proud of myself. The inconsistenices just make it more special! From start to finish it took me about 3 hours.
After I made that dress I had the itch to make another one. Isn't that how sewing goes?! I wanted to try a pattern this time, and found one through a blog that I love, JCHandmade. You can find the link to her tutorial, here.
I didn't anticipate the piping needing as much of a seam, so I shortened the dress a little more than I would have liked. Kylie will just have to wear some cute red bloomers with it! This dress took me about 2 hours to make, and I enjoyed the tutorial immensely.
Now I'm eager for another sewing project. Perhaps a skirt for myself? We'll see!

Blimey darling! You sew so fast! Very impressed. I think I might have to suck it up and buy a sewing machine as I've bought some new chairs that need recovering. I can't face all that hand stitching! How did you sew yours?
I used my machine - but not w/o some severe screaming matches. It has a tendency to be rather fickle!
